An armed suspect who was shot by at least one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy in Azusa is in critical condition Thursday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Deputies from the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station responded at approximately 3:23 p.m. Wednesday to the 5500 block of North Orangecrest Avenue and East Orkney Street regarding an attempted suicide call. The caller claimed the suspect, a man, was armed with a knife, said Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.
When the deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered the suspect, who left the residence through a side gate. He refused to comply with orders from the deputies and subsequently charged at the nearest deputy near a patrol vehicle, the LASD said.
Deputies then shot the suspect and he was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel in critical condition.
A knife, with an approximate 3-inch metal blade, was recovered at the scene, the LASD said.
No deputies were injured in the shooting, according to the LASD and the investigation remains ongoing.
