Cher’s son’s estranged wife is asking to be included in any conservatorship efforts the 80-year-old singer may obtain regarding her offspring, saying she is still married to the proposed conservatee and therefore has an interest in the proceedings.
“I remain legally married to Elijah (Blue Allman) and have direct personal, legal and financial interest in the outcome of these proceedings,” Marieangela King Allman says in a sworn declaration filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court in which she indicates she is representing herself. “I have not been provided access to the reports, evaluations or recommendations that may be relied upon by the court, nor have I been afforded meaningful opportunity to present information regarding Elijah’s current circumstances, treatment, support system and wishes.”
King Allman further says that although she is not currently a party to the conservatorship proceedings, she has been married to Elijah Blue for more than 12 years and so the outcome of the case will “substantially affect both my husband and our marital rights and interests.”
King Allman says she wants to review the court investigator’s report, medical supplemental report and any related evaluations “to the extent permitted by law.”
King Allman says she and her husband and have “experienced challenges within our marriage, many of which were related to his struggles with substance abuse, mental health issues and the consequences that followed.”
After Elijah Blue’s arrest earlier this year in New Hampshire, King Allman filed for divorce because at that time she was “emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, and believed separation was necessary,” King Allman further says.
However, since filing for divorce, Elijah Blue’s placement through the New Hampshire court system into structured treatment environment and her continued concern for his well-being caused her to reconsider ending the marriage and she dropped the idea, according to King Allman.
“I care deeply about Elijah’s well-being and want him to receive any treatment, structure, support and professional assistance that he genuinely needs,” King Allman says. “My position is not based upon denial of his past struggles. Rather, my position is based upon my belief that decisions regarding his future should be made with complete understanding of his current circumstances, treatment, support system and wishes.
Cher was denied her petition for an emergency conservatorship over her son in January. The next hearing in the conservatorship proceedings is Oct. 30. Elijah Blue is Cher’s only son with late Allman Brothers singer Gregg Allman.
