A woman suspected of highway violence was arrested and taken to a hospital after a high-speed pursuit that ended on a Hawthorne on-ramp to the San Diego (405) Freeway.
The California Highway Patrol received a call of “possible highway violence” at 12:47 a.m. Monday on the northbound San Diego Freeway, Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The suspect was following the victim, Garcia explained.
Officers spotted the car at 1:06 a.m. on the northbound 405 near Crenshaw Boulevard, he said.
The driver took off when officers initiated a traffic stop and led them on a pursuit reaching speeds of 90 to 100 mph, Garcia said.
The pursuit ended when the car crashed on the eastbound Rosecrans on-ramp to the northbound San Diego Freeway, although Garcia said he did not know how the car came to be there. The crash damaged guardrail and the on-ramp was shut down.
A news videographer who went to the scene reported that the suspect was a woman and that about 100 feet of guardrail was damaged before the car rolled over.
Video showed the damaged sedan at the entrance to the freeway and a woman handcuffed to a gurney being loaded onto an ambulance for transport to a hospital. Her condition was not available.
