The county Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved increasing to $50,000 and extending a reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for the killing of a 17-year-old high school graduate in Torrance.
Chyler Paton was fatally shot around 9 p.m. June 18, 2025, while attending an end-of-school-year pool party at a home in the 23000 block of Huber Avenue. Paton had just graduated from Culver City High School, where he played football.
“Chyler had his entire life ahead of him, and whoever is responsible for robbing him of it needs to be held accountable for that,” Hahn said. “His family (has) lived with the pain of his death for more than a year now. We need the public’s help to close this case and help deliver justice for them.”
The county Board of Supervisors in August 2025 approved a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the killing. The reward was extended last November and again in February.
On Tuesday, the board approved a motion by Supervisor Janice Hahn to again extend the reward offer and increase the amount to $50,000. Hahn noted in her motion that a person of interest was arrested during the investigation into the killing, but there was not enough evidence for criminal charges to be filed.
Hahn wrote in the motion that detectives “believe there may be witnesses who may be able to provide corroborating information.”
“More than a year ago, a family lost their 17-year-old son to gun violence,” Supervisor Holly Mitchell said. “Chyler Paton had just graduated from Culver City High School and had a bright future ahead of him when his life was tragically taken. We will continue to urge anyone with information that could hold those responsible for this senseless and heinous crime to come forward.”
