A Los Angeles Police Department Crown Victoria patrol car was stolen near BMO Stadium in Los Angeles and eventually recovered in San Juan Capistrano, according to reports Thursday.
The police cruiser with a light bar but no weapons was taken at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
News stations reported it was parked at 38th and Figueroa streets, near the stadium where LAFC was taking on Real Salt Lake.
California Highway Patrol helicopters reportedly helped the LAPD track the police car using the Flock radar system and followed it while the suspect was driving southbound on the San Diego (5) Freeway near Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano.
CHP officers made a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody.
News video showed the suspect being placed in an LAPD SUV for transport while the once-stolen patrol car was driven back to Los Angeles.
