A woman was killed Saturday in a Santa Monica apartment at or near Santa Monica College, and police took a suspect into custody a few hours later.

The Santa Monica Police Department received a call about 5:20 p.m. Saturday about a woman in need of medical attention in an apartment in the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard, the department stated in a press release.

Arriving officers found a woman with “significant injuries,” police said.

Santa Monica paramedics attempted to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released pending notification of family.

At 8:45 p.m., police reported that a suspect was taken into custody in connection with the homicide investigation and that they were not looking for additional suspects at this time. A description of the suspect was not provided.

The investigation remained active and ongoing, police said.
