Overnight lane and ramp closures will begin Sunday in both directions of the Golden State (5) Freeway near Castaic as crews continue work on a pavement rehabilitation project, Caltrans announced Wednesday.

Up to two lanes in both directions of the freeway will be closed from 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday between Hasley Canyon Road and one mile south of Vista del Lago Road, according to Caltrans.

The Lake Hughes Road and Templin Highway on- and off-ramps in both directions will be closed from 5 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. The southbound truck brake inspection off-ramp will also be closed during those hours.

More extensive overnight closures are planned Monday through Thursday, when up to three freeway lanes in both directions will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

The Lake Hughes Road and Templin Highway on- and off-ramps in both directions will also be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, along with the southbound truck brake inspection off-ramp.

Caltrans said the closures are necessary for concrete slab replacement, guardrail upgrades and freeway repaving.

Residents and businesses near the construction area may experience noise, vibrations and grinding during the work, according to the agency.

Construction on the $61.15 million project began in spring 2025 and is expected to continue through winter 2027.
