A suspect in the killing of a woman at an assisted living facility for mentally ill and developmentally disabled adults in Santa Monica was in custody Sunday.
The Santa Monica Police Department received a call at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday about a woman in need of medical attention at a residence in the 1900 block of Pico Boulevard, according to a statement from the department.
Arriving officers found her with “significant injuries,” police said.
Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics attempted to save her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her name was not released pending notification of family.
The suspect’s arrest was announced at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, but Santa Monica police have not released any additional information.
“There are no additional suspects being sought at this time,” the department said. “The investigation remains active and ongoing.”
The attack occurred at an assisted living facility for mentally ill and developmentally disabled adults, KTLA5 reported. Citing neighbors, the station added that the victim was found unresponsive after being attacked in a communal bathroom.
The Manor, whose website says it has “provided room, board, care and supervision since the 1960s for persons with mental illness, and for those with developmental disabilities,” is located at 1905 Pico Blvd.
The homicide was the fifth of the year in Santa Monica, one more than in 2025, Lt. Lewis Gilmour told City News Service.
