A high school in Pico Rivera was open and back to normal Friday after the campus was locked down due to a scary threat being found on social media.
An investigation was continuing into the threat on Twitter that caused the lockdown at El Rancho High School .
A male student of the school was detained in connection with the threats, authorities said. Deputies learned of the threat Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s department.
“A Twitter account, allegedly belonging to a student from El Rancho High School, sent a message out earlier in the morning indicating the student planned to ‘shoot up the school’ with a firearm,” a sheriff’s statement said.
“He also indicated he wanted to bomb the school. Investigators identified the account holder as a student currently enrolled at the school,” the department said.
The school was placed on lockdown, and the student was located on campus, authorities said.
“He was safely detained by Pico Rivera (Station) sheriff’s deputies without incident,” the department said. “He was not in possession of a weapon at the time of his detention. No students or faculty were injured during this incident. Investigators determined there no longer was a threat to campus safety.”
Pico Rivera-based sheriff’s Sgt. Janine Hanson said the investigation into the threat was continuing. The suspect’s status was not reported.
