Orange County sheriff’s investigators Thursday determined not credible a perceived threat against Tesoro High School, whose senior class is scheduled to graduate Thursday evening.
The source of the perceived threat was a text-message conversation between two Tesoro High School friends that ended up on social media and was wrongly interpreted as a threat, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun said.
“It was fully investigated and is not a credible threat,” Braun said. “We’re working with the school and the district to make sure all students and attendees at the graduation are safe.”
Thursday evening’s graduation ceremony will be at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.
It wasn’t the first time the perceived threat surfaced online.
“This is not the first threat on social media that rises back up to the surface down the road,” said Ryan Burris, a spokesman for the Capistrano Unified School District.
Whenever anyone alerts school officials about a concerning post the district reaches out to law enforcement right away, Burris said.
“We continue to work with them to make sure there’s no new information and that students and families are safe,” Burris said.
