The Coachella Valley Firebirds Thursday revealed their mascot, Fuego, who in addition to entertaining at the American Hockey League team’s games will promote its health, recreation and educational programs.

The team described Fuego as “a mystical union of the spirits of all those who came before him, embodying the power and strength of the Coachella Valley … born of fire and intense heat, with a powerful spirit destined to unite cities, communities and people from all walks of life.”

Fuego will be featured in the team’s anti-bullying campaign, “Extinguish Bullying,” where students from kindergarten through fifth grade will be asked to follow “Fuego’s Four Helpful Tips” for dealing with bullying:

— talk to a trusted adult;

— don’t bully back;

— support the bully target; and

— stick with your buddies.

The affiliate of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken will begin its inaugural season Oct. 16 in Calgary, part of 18 road games and four in the Seattle area before its first home game at Acrisure Arena Dec. 18.
