At a time when newspapers across the country are shrinking or shutting down, Beverly Hills High School students are bringing one back, it was announced Monday.
The school’s student-run publication, Beverly Highlights, has returned to print for the first time in nearly a decade, according to the Beverly Hills Unified School District.
The newspaper, produced entirely by students, has long served as a campus platform for news, features, opinion and culture, and its revival reconnects a new generation of writers and editors with a longstanding school tradition, officials said.
“As a former Beverly Hills High School student, this moment is especially meaningful to me,” Board of Education President Judith Manouchehri said in a statement. “Beverly Hills High School’s Beverly Highlights has long been an important platform for student journalism and expression. Its return to print reflects our commitment to ensuring students have meaningful opportunities to share their perspectives and engage their school community.”
District officials said the print edition offers a tangible way for students to engage with their work while developing skills in communication, collaboration and critical thinking.
Copies of the newspaper will be distributed at select on-campus events and locations for students, staff and families.
School officials said the relaunch underscores an effort to balance tradition with modern education while maintaining a focus on student voice.
