Griffith Observatory will celebrate its 91st anniversary Thursday with the launch of a new digital guide designed to help visitors explore the landmark’s exhibits, architecture and history.

The guide will be available through Bloomberg Connects, a free mobile application created by Bloomberg Philanthropies that offers digital guides for museums and cultural institutions around the world, according to the Griffith Observatory Foundation.

Griffith Observatory will become the first observatory in the United States to be featured on the app, organizers said.

The digital guide will include audio commentary, videos, interactive maps and behind-the-scenes information intended to enhance both on-site visits and remote exploration.

Featured audio segments will include a welcome narrated by Observatory Director Dr. E.C. Krupp, along with presentations focused on the Astronomers Monument, the Hollywood Sign Terrace and the “Rebel Without a Cause” monument.

Foundation officials said the guide was developed in conjunction with the observatory’s 90th anniversary celebration last year and was intended to improve accessibility for visitors.

The guide will be available through the Bloomberg Connects app on Apple and Android devices and also through a web browser.

Organizers said the content will be available in more than 50 languages through Google Translate integration.

Griffith Observatory opened in 1935 and remains one of Los Angeles’ most visited public attractions.
