A 99.6-acre brush fire in an unincorporated area about 18 miles east of Temecula was 50% contained Monday with all but one evacuation warning lifted.

The Mindy Fire was reported around 3:40 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Decoursey Road and Mindy Lane in Aguanga, where firefighters found it burning at a moderate rate, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

At the initial time of report, the fire was burning about 20 acres, but grew to 72 acres by 5 p.m. and 99.6 acres later Sunday.

Evacuation orders were temporarily issued for areas north of Wilson Balley Road, west of Cahuilla Heights Road, east of Benton Road and south of Red Mountain Road.

The Riverside County Fire Department announced at 8:42 p.m. Sunday the evacuation orders in four zones had been downgraded to evacuation warnings and what had been evacuation warnings in four other zones had been lifted.

All but one of the evacuation warnings were lifted by 9:36 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

Numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state were flying fire suppression missions as conditions allowed. There were 19 engines, three water tenders, two dozers, four hand crews and 100 personnel assigned to the fire, according to Cal Fire.

An evacuation shelter was established at Hemet High School.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
