A teen-aged girl was killed and a woman thought to be about 70 was in grave condition Wednesday morning after a fire ripped through a home in Hollywood.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday to a single-family home at 1760 N. Vista Del Mar Ave., south of the Hollywood (101) Freeway, where they knocked down enough flames to make entry and perform a search.
During the search, firefighters found the victims and pulled them from the home, LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz said.
The teen girl, thought to be about 15 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was rushed to a hospital in grave condition, Lantz said.
Crews at the scene initially reported the woman did not survive, but later updated her condition to grave after she was revived with CPR.
It took 43 firefighters 19 minutes to extinguish the flames. Members of the LAFD’s Arson Section were on the scene to conduct its investigation of the fire. The medical examiner’s office was also called to the scene.
It was not immediately known if smoke alarms were in use, Lantz said.
Police and city transportation personnel were controlling traffic in the area.
