The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors urged county employees Tuesday to donate blood at American Red Cross centers, saying the supplies could be used to help victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.
“We must unite to support the victims and applaud the bravery and service of law enforcement and first responders from Metro Las Vegas and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department,” Supervisor Kathryn Barger said.
Barger and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas also recommended coordinating with the Red Cross to arrange for county hospitals with blood donation centers to be ready to assist in the event of an immediate blood shortage in Nevada.
The supervisors said Las Vegas hospitals are in “dire need” of donations given the large number of patients in critical condition.
“Although United Blood Services has met the immediate need for blood, they are still asking people to return and donate later this week,” according to the supervisors’ motion.
