The 15-year-old son of former Redondo Beach City Councilwoman Martha Barbee was being mourned Tuesday after he fell to his death from a balcony.
Vincent Barbee was pronounced dead at a hospital, where he was taken by rescuers who responded to a report of a fall from balcony about 6:30 p.m. Monday at the family’s home in the 500 block of Esplanade Way.

Officers and paramedics found the boy — identified in a Daily Breeze story as Redondo Union High School ninth-grader Vincent Barbee — in front of the home and began lifesaving measures, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.
Foul play is not suspected, but police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the death.
Redondo Union High School principal Jens Brandt and Redondo Beach Unified School District Superintendent Steven Keller issued a joint statement recognizing the Barbee family as “a significant force in our learning community” and saying the teen “will be missed.”
Martha Barbee is a refugee from Cuba who came to the U.S. when she was 9. She served on the city’s Historical Commission and was appointed to a vacant city council seat in 2016 but lost a bid for reelection last year, according to the newspaper.
