World Cup fan zones and celebrations, concerts, museums and daily commuters surged ridership on Metro’s bus and rail system for June, the agency announced Tuesday.

Metro recorded a total of 26,265,480 rides last month, representing an increase of 2 million compared to June 2025, or a 9% growth.

Total June ridership increased for weekdays and weekends. Weekday ridership stood at 953,820 rides, an increase of 8.4% compared to June 2025. Saturdays increased nearly 13% year-over-year to 708,826 and Sundays increased 7.7% to 611,534.

Bus ridership grew by 6.8% year-over-year, with the biggest increase on Saturdays, which were up by 9.1% to 514,987 from June 2025. Weekday travel was up by 5.2% from last year with 721,846 riders.

The J Line, a bus rapid transit route, was up 11.7% as it was used by many riders for World Cup activities.

Total bus ridership in June stood at 19,703,996. Rail ridership stood at 6,561,484, a 21.8% year-over-year increase, according to Metro.

June also marked the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of the LAX/Metro Transit Center, and the one-month anniversary of the opening of the D Line Extension’s three new stations at Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, and Wilshire/La Cienega.

D (Purple) Line ridership increased by 45% overall, and 70% on Saturday compared to June 2024.

Metro said the increase was driven by events such as the L.A. Pride Parade in Hollywood, West Hollywood Pride activities, the new Hollywood Bowl season, Anime Expo at the LA Convention Center, and concerts by Shakira at the Intuit Dome and Ariana Grande at Crypto.com Arena.

The agency noted that June’s figures excluded ridership tied to the direct enhanced service routes to Los Angeles Stadium for World Cup fans attending games, which are expected to be announced later this week.
