A medical call turned into a hazardous materials investigation in downtown Los Angeles Monday morning when an unknown substance was found in someone’s bag.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel went on a medical call in the 300 block of North Los Angeles Street about 8:35 a.m., and when an unknown substance — reported to be a white powder — was found in the patient’s bag, a haz mat crew was summoned to make sure it wasn’t anything posing a risk to the public or first responders.
Los Angeles street was closed between Temple and Aliso streets, and according to reports from the scene, at least a portion of the federal building in that block was evacuated.
The all-clear was given by about 11 a.m., according to LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
