Paul McCartney will perform in concert at Dodger Stadium Saturday night, his first performance there since a 1966 Beatles concert best remembered by those in attendance for its brevity.
In a recorded announcement played during recent Dodger games, McCartney promised to play longer this time.
According to a Los Angeles Times account, The Beatles played 10 songs in approximately a half-hour on Aug. 28, 1966, including “She’s a Woman,” “If I Needed Someone” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Music.”
A crowd estimated at 45,000, paying $4.50 for tickets on the top deck and $6 for loge and field level tickets, turned out for what would prove to be The Beatles third-from-last concert and the 13th stop on their 14-city North American tour. The tour would end the following night in San Francisco’s Candlestick Park before a crowd estimated at 25,000. Their last concert as a group would come in 1969, in London.
Saturday’s concert is expected to run for three hours, with the 72-year- old McCartney performing songs spanning his entire career — as a Beatle, solo artist and a member of Wings.
Tickets were priced from $25 to $250 and sold out the day they went on sale on May 5.
The concert will be McCartney’s first in Los Angeles since a two-night stand at the Hollywood Bowl in 2010.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m., with all auto gates opening at 5 p.m. and all stadium gates at 6 p.m.
Concert-goers are advised to purchase parking in advance on the Dodgers website, Dodgers.com, as it may not be available Saturday.
Dodger Stadium Express shuttle bus service from Union Station will begin running at 5 p.m. Return service from Dodger Stadium will continue until 45 minutes after the conclusion of the concert.
Parking is available at Union Station for $6.
