NBC announced it has ordered six episodes of “The Island,” a “Survivor-” like series where the participants will do all the filming.
“The Island” will abandon 14 men on a deserted island with only the clothes on their backs and minimal survival tools and require them to film every moment themselves. The participants must hunt for food, find water and erect shelter.
The series will not have any eliminations or prizes, said Bear Grylls, who will host and produce the series. It is based on a British series of the same name.
The participants include a stay-at-home father, trauma surgeon, firefighter and criminal defense attorney.
“This experiment reveals, in a shocking way, whether modern man, when pushed, can still summon all the resolve, ingenuity and strength that traditionally made a man’s man — or whether our society’s cushioning has meant we have lost those hard-earned skills of our ancestors,” Grylls said.
