Filming is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Sully,” with Clint Eastwood directing fellow Oscar winner Tom Hanks in the biopic about the airline captain who glided his disabled plane onto the Hudson River, saving all 155 aboard.

Principal photography began Monday in New York, where the Jan. 15, 2009, water landing that instantly made Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III a household name was achieved.

Filming will also take place in North Carolina, Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Hanks’ co-stars are Aaron Eckhart as US Airways Flight 1549 co-pilot Jeff Skiles and Laura Linney as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger.

Eastwood is directing the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book “Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters” by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

The film reunites Eastwood with several of his longtime collaborators, who most recently worked with the director on “American Sniper”: director of photography Tom Stern, production designer James J. Murakami, costume designer Deborah Hopper and editor Blu Murray.
