“The Lego Batman Movie” was the big hit of the holiday weekend, pulling in $44.2 million over the four-day stretch, according to final figures released Tuesday.
The movie bested the less-family-friendly sequel “Fifty Shades Darker,” which earned $22.7 million between Friday and Monday, according to box-office tracker comScore.
Matt Damon’s action film “The Great Wall” opened in third place, bringing in $21.5 million, followed by the Keanu Reeve’s thriller “John Wick: Chapter Two,” which collected $19 million.
The comedy “Fist Fight” debuted in fifth place with $14.1 million.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies in the North American market over the holiday weekend were “Hidden Figures” ($9 million); “Split” ($8.5 million); “A Dog’s Purpose” ($7.5 million); “La La Land” ($5.6 million); and “Lion” ($5.1 million).
