Called a major “media merger,” the engagement of conservative Joe Scarborough and liberal Mika Brzezinski is added proof that love transcends politics.

CNN said of the MSNBC pair: “Brzezinski and Scarborough … made no mention of the engagement on their show, ‘Morning Joe, on Thursday. But several of the show’s guests congratulated them — for recent ‘ratings wins — and an MSNBC spokesman subsequently confirmed the news.”

The New York Post’s Page Six column broke the news: “We’re told Scarborough, 54, got down on one knee and proposed at the scenic Bar Bellini at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, which has a breathtaking moonlit outdoor terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.”

The mixed marriage genre is an old one, and includes perhaps the most famous across-the-aisle pair — George W. Bush aide Mary Matalin and Clinton campaign adviser James Carville.

When their book “Love and War” came out, they were asked the number one thing they fight about.

“The air conditioning in the house,” Carville said. The kids, not at all.”

The Hollywood Reporter earlier quoted Scarborough: “We have a crackling on-air chemistry, and a crackling off-air chemistry, too.”

Former Florida congressman Scarborough divorced his second wife in 2013. Brzezinski, the daughter of former Jimmy Carter national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, split from her husband of 23 years last June.
