Tiger Woods is taking a mulligan in his DUI case, entering a one-year diversion program for DUI offenders in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Although the golfer’s lawyer signed a not-guilty plea in court Wednesday, Woods hopes to reduce the charge to reckless driving, according to news reports. (Woods didn’t appear in court.)

Adrienne Ellis, the Palm Beach County chief assistant state attorney, told ABC News that community service and attendance of a “Victim Impact Panel” about real-life drinking and drug-related crashes are part of the program requirements.

“He wasn’t treated differently than anybody else,” Ellis told ABC News, which reported that the Southland golf legend’s arraignment date was reset for Oct. 25.

On June 19, weeks after his May 29 arrest, Woods issued a statement saying he was seeking “professional help” for his use of prescription drugs “to manage my medications and ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder.”
