The entertainment news website Deadline Hollywood reported that producer-director Ridley Scott and producers Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas decided to replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer in the role of billionaire oilman J. Paul Getty in the drama about the 1973 kidnapping of grandson John Paul Getty III
Re-shoots of the scenes Spacey appeared in are expected to begin immediately, Deadline Hollywood. Scott is reported to be determined to to keep the film’s Dec. 22 release date.
The cast and crew of the film, including Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg, and Sony Pictures, which will release the film, unanimously agreed to re-shoot all of Spacey’s scenes, Deadline Hollywood reported.
There was no immediate response to an email sent after the close of regular business hours to Sony Pictures seeking comment.
Allegations began to surface against Spacey, 58, late last month when he was accused of making an unwanted sexual advance in 1986 toward then 14-year- old actor Anthony Rapp. Spacey was 26 at the time. Several other men have since come forward to say that Spacey sexually assaulted them, and a number of entertainment companies are severing their ties with the actor.
