Long Beach Transit announced Wednesday that free rides will be offered, starting at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
The service will also be extended, with routes leaving the Transit Gallery on First Street between Long Beach Boulevard and Pine Avenue as late as 2:35 a.m. on New Year’s Day, according to spokesman Michael Gold.
No special coupon or ticket will be required.
The annual promotion is aimed at encouraging New Year’s revelers to make responsible plans and take public transit to and from festivities to avoid drinking and driving.
“LBT connects you safely to your New Year’s fun and our experienced operators will do the driving to get you home,” said Kenneth A. McDonald, Long Beach Transit’s CEO.
The complete list of routes and schedules is available on LBT’s website, www.ridelbt.com/newyear. Customers can also call (562) 591-2301 or visit www.ridelbt.com for route planning assistance.
Long Beach Transit serves 26 million annual boarding customers in Long Beach, Lakewood and Signal Hill, as well as portions of Artesia, Bellflower, Carson, Cerritos, Compton, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, Los Alamitos, Paramount and Seal Beach.
