Pierce Brosnan’s two youngest sons have been selected to serve as the Golden Globe ambassadors for the Jan. 5 ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Thursday evening.
Dylan and Paris Brosnan will assist with distributing trophies during the ceremony, work to raise awareness of a cause of their choosing and partner with a related nonprofit organization.
The Brosnan brothers chose childhood hunger and education as their cause and FEED as the organization. FEED provides school meals to the most vulnerable communities throughout the world. It was founded in 2007 by Lauren Bush Lauren, a granddaughter of the late President George H.W. Bush and a daughter-in-law of fashion designer Ralph Lauren.
“I’ve never had to worry about where my next meal might come from — I’m lucky in that respect — but I know that millions of children worldwide don’t have that luxury,” Paris Brosnan said at a party at CatchLA in West Hollywood where the announcement of the ambassadors was made.
“School meals provide critically important nutrition, and also incentivize parents to keep kids in school, giving them a fighting chance for a better life.”
Paris Brosnan traveled to Sri Lanka with FEED to produce a short film in support of the organization’s efforts. He is a freshman at the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University.
“The biggest lesson our dad taught us is to `be kind,’ which was an essential factor in Paris and my decision to study filmmaking and our desire to tell important stories,” said Dylan Brosnan, who is scheduled to graduate from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in May. “Having this opportunity to turn the spotlight outward on kids experiencing hunger is a true privilege.’
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association rebranded the position formerly known as Miss/Mr. Golden Globe in 2017 to better reflect the role, express inclusiveness and highlight philanthropy. The honoree (or honorees) are traditionally the son or daughter of one of the entertainment industry’s most respected actors, actresses, directors and producers.
The Brosnans are the first brothers to be Golden Globe ambassadors. Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet Stallone, the daughters of Golden Globe-winning actor Sylvester Stallone, were Miss Golden Globes for the 2017 ceremony.
Previous Miss Golden Globes included Laura Dern, a daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern, Joely Fisher, a daughter of Connie Stevens and Eddie Fisher, and Melanie Griffith, a daughter of Tippi Hedren. Freddie Prinze Jr., son of the late actor-comedian Freddie Prinze, and Sam Fox, the son of the actor Michael J. Fox, were Mr. Golden Globes.
Outgoing Golden Globe ambassador Isan Elba, the daughter of Golden Globe-winning actor Idris Elba, introduced the Brosnan brothers as her successors.
Pierce Brosnan is a two-time Golden Globe nominee, nominated in 1984 for best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series, miniseries or motion picture made for television for the BBC minseries “Nancy Astor,” the first female member of Great Britain’s Parliament to take her seat, and in 2005 for best performance by an actor in a motion picture, comedy or musical for “The Matador.”
