Billy Ocean will take the stage at Spotlight 29 Casino’s Showroom Friday.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, the London-raised singer-songwriter’s career is filled with highlights, including a Billboard No. 1 and Grammy win in 1985 for his single “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run).”

Ocean was discovered in a London nightclub in Saville Row. After four albums that achieved little commercial success, Sony Music acquired his old record label and his career took off in the 80s.

His voice and writing both lend themselves to multiple genres, including R&B, pop and reggae. Ocean’s signature tonality and frequent use of falsetto notes worked within his nearly three-octave range.

This is the third show in Ocean’s U.S. tour, which began on Oct. 3 in Chandler, Arizona. He is scheduled to continue traveling through North America until Nov. 1, when he’ll embark on another tour across his home country.
