Actor Michael B. Jordan will receive the Icon Award for his performance in the film “Sinners” at next year’s Palm Springs International Film Awards, organizers said.

“Michael B. Jordan once again proves why he’s been one of the most compelling performers for the past two decades. In `Sinners,’ his reunion with Ryan Coogler yields a bold and intricate performance as twin brothers Smoke and Stack. Michael’s ability to inhabit two distinct souls with such power and nuance is nothing short of extraordinary,” Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said.

Jordan, 38, appeared in the HBO drama series “The Wire” and alongside Keanu Reeves in 2001’s “Hardball” before garnering attention in his breakout film role in 2013’s “Fruitvale Station,” directed by Coogler, who also helmed “Sinners.”

Jordan is also widely known for “Creed,” “Creed II” and “Creed III,” the “Rocky” spinoff franchise in which he played the son of Apollo Creed.

He has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actor and a SAG ensemble award as part of 2018’s “Black Panther.”

Past winners of the Icon Award include Glenn Close, Willem Dafoe, Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall, Lady Gaga, Paul Giamatti, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

The film awards will take place on Jan. 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center at 277 N. Avenida Caballeros, with the accompanying film festival running from Jan. 2-12.
