In the three years after the Great Recession, Los Angeles metro area median household income fell from $60,409 to $58,869, according to a Census Bureau report out Thursday.
Over the period, median earnings for men was $45,871; for women, $40,700.
The percentage of households receiving food stamps — known as SNAP benefits — rose from 6.6 percent in 2010 to 8.3 percent in 2013.
Households living below the poverty level rose from 16.3 percent in 2010 to 17.6 percent in 2013, and those with children rose from 22.6 percent in 2010 to 25.3 percent last year.
The percentage of households with private health insurance was statistically unchanged over the period, about 56 percent. Uninsured households decreased from 22.2 percent in 2010 to to 20.2 percent in 2013. Dollar figures over the period were adjusted for accurate comparisons.
