Three Los Angeles women with a combined age of 309 will celebrate the eldest’s 104th birthday at a noon celebration at a West Adams District retirement and care center Saturday.
Rosie Tilles and her two friends, Ruby Norman, 103, and Eleanor Waller, 102, will be joined by members of the First A.M.E. Church during a noon celebration at the Saint John of God Retirement and Care Center, said Michael Ellis of the First A.M.E. Church.
Ellis said the women have served the church and the Los Angeles community together for several decades as members of the church’s Women’s Missionary Society.
There will be a brief program, which will begin at noon, and will include a special tribute by the Devine Praise Dancers, a special greeting letter from President Barack Obama and congratulatory words from fellow centenarians and community leaders.
Special guests will include the Rev. Cecil “Chip” Murray, who served as Tilles pastor for 27 years, along with the Rev. J. Edgar Boyd, the current pastor at First A.M.E. Church.
