The still-closed section Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County is expected to reopen Thursday evening, a Caltrans spokesman said.
Rock and mudslides along a 9-mile stretch between Yerba Buena and Las Posas roads closed the heavily traveled coastal route Sunday.
Road crews have been waiting for the current storm to pass before scraping up the muck, which covers the road in three spots where it flowed over K-rails placed on the shoulder. The slides, triggered by clogged catch basins, were precipitated by the 2013 Springs Fire, according to Patrick Chandler of Caltrans.
Union Engineering was awarded a $2 million emergency contract to clear away the debris.
