A blizzard warning in the Northeast led to 87 flight cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday.
As of 1 p.m., 27 arriving flights and 60 departing flights had been canceled, according to airport officials. Travelers were urged to consult their airlines for specific flight information.
The warning was in effect today for coastal areas from New Jersey to Maine, where a “nor’easter” was expected to bring heavy snow and blizzard conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
Up to three feet of snow could fall in the region in the next couple of days, according to some estimates.
According to the NWS, a blizzard includes heavy snow and/or blowing snow; 35-plus mph winds or frequent gusts; and visibility of one-quarter mile or less, with some “whiteout” conditions that make it difficult to see and that can cause disorientation.
