A baby boy got a police escort as his mother celebrated Mother’s Day in the most basic nature, by giving birth in a car racing to a hospital Sunday.

Around 5 a.m., officers Maraea Toomalatai and Brian Armendariz pulled over a white Chevrolet they had seen speeding north on Grand Avenue near Adams Boulevard in South Los Angeles, according to the LAPD.

The officers quickly discovered the passenger, Sasha Murphy, was about to give birth, police said.

The officers told the driver and father, Mohammed Tindley, to follow their patrol car as they escorted the soon-to-be-parents to Dignity Health California Medical Center, according to the LAPD.

The baby boy, Messiah Tindley, was born inside the vehicle escorted by the officers, according to the LAPD.

“On Mother’s Day, two LAPD Newton Area officers … made an everlasting impression in our community, they both made a difference,” the department said in a combination news release and birth announcement.
