As the region’s heat wave continued into its fourth day, utility crews worked Tuesday to restore electricity to about 13,500 customers in various parts of Los Angeles County.
As of 10:41 a.m., there were about 8,900 customers without electricity in parts of the city of Los Angeles, said Vonda Paige of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
Among the areas hardest hit were Hancock Park, with about 1,900 customers affected, and the Van Nuys area, with about 1,600 customers affected.
In areas of the county served by Southern California Edison, 4,657 customers were without electrical service late this morning, the utility reported.
Electricity usage set a record on Monday. The LADWP reported peak energy demand for the day reached 6,080 megawatts, besting the previous record for a June day, which was set on the same date in 2008, when demand hit 6,053 megawatts. But it was still short of the all-time record demand — 6,396 megawatts, set on Sept. 16, 2014.
