If Pirates of the Caribbean seems to you like one of the newer rides at Disneyland, you probably have been on Medicare and Social Security for some time.
Disneyland this week is celebrating the golden anniversary of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Anaheim theme park.
The attraction, which opened 50 years ago on Saturday and later inspired the lucrative series of movies starring Johnny Depp, will be celebrated with special food items, limited-edition anniversary merchandise and a visit from Capt. Jack Sparrow.
On Thursday, new pirate-themed food was added to the Disneyland menu, including at the Blue Bayou Restaurant, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary Saturday.
Park officials also promise guests “special surprises” that day.
The fifth movie based on the attraction, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” is set to debut May 26.
