Firefighters Saturday battled a fire in a commercial building in South Los Angeles, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 2:06 p.m. at 11632 S Main St., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The fight continued through the afternoon, with 98 firefighters engaged in a defensive operation to keep flames from spreading to nearby structures, Humphrey said.
The defensive attack “continued outside the structure for nearly one-half hour, before an eight minute interior fire attack ensued, he said. “The successful effort prevented injury and precluded flames from extending to any other structure.”
The flames were reported out at 2:58 p.m., Humphrey said.
Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene for several hours to put out hot spots in the debris inside the vacant building and assist in the investigation as to cause, he said.
