A person was taken to a hospital Tuesday afternoon from the scene of a crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway in the North Hills area.

The crash occurred about 5:05 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near Roscoe Boulevard, but details were sketchy.

An initial report to the California Highway Patrol indicated that a gray Ford Escape hit a guard rail and kept going, and another person told authorities that the driver of a gold Ford Explorer appeared to be asleep at the wheel and was swerving.

The CHP could not immediately confirm if the reports were accurate or how many vehicles were involved in the collision.

The Los Angeles Fire Department took one person to a hospital, department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said. The patient’s age, gender and condition were not available.
