One person was killed and seven injured Wednesday evening in a multi-vehicle crash, which involved an Metro bus, in the unincorporated Florence-Firestone area near South Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 6:40 p.m. near Compton Avenue and East 81st Street, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

One person, whose name was not immediately released, was dead when firefighters arrived, and seven people were taken to a hospital, the fire department reported. Three of them were in critical condition, according to KCAL9.

One of the vehicles involved in the crash was a Line 55 Metro bus, according to Jose Ubaldo, senior communications officer for Metro Media Relations. None of the people on the bus, including the driver, were injured.

The area was shut down to traffic while officers investigated, according to the California Highway Patrol, which issued a SigAlert.

The circumstances of the crash were being investigated, and no information about the patients was released.
