A free community cleanup and paper shredding event will be held at Della S. Lindley Elementary School Saturday for Thousand Palms residents.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parking lot of the school, 31-495 Robert Road, according to a statement from Supervisor V. Manuel Perez.

“(These cleanups) provide a service to residents, who want to dispose of items that have accumulated over the past few months,” Perez said in a statement. “These events also help keep our communities clean and, as a free resource, they provide an alternative to illegal dumping.”

During the event, residents will be able to shred up to five boxes of papers for free and dispose of bulky items such as furniture, appliances and up to nine tires, according to Perez. Residents will be in charge of unloading their waste items from their own vehicles.

Hazardous materials such as batteries, pool chemicals, fertilizers, gasoline, paint, engines and motor oil will not be accepted at the event but up to 15 gallons of such items can instead be dropped off at the Waste Resources Department’s permanent collection site in Palm Springs at 1100 Vella Road.
