A motorist was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 210 in Irwindale, authorities said Saturday.
The crash occurred at about 4:40 p.m. Friday on the westbound freeway east of Irwindale Avenue and involved a gray Hyundai Elantra and a gray Chevrolet Impala, according to Capt. Vic Walton of the California Highway Patrol.
Fontana resident Rashad Kellen James Martin, 18, was driving the Hyundai westbound when it veered to the right and strike a metal electrical box located on the right shoulder of the freeway, Walton said.
The Hyundai continued in a northwestern direction and struck the Impala, which had entered the freeway from the Irwindale Avenue on-ramp, he said.
“The Impala was struck on the left side, causing it to travel in a westerly direction and come to rest on its wheels in a dirt embankment area,” according to a CHP statement. “The Hyundai Elantra also spun out of control and came to rest on its wheels in the same area.”
The driver of the Impala, a 42-year-old resident of Monrovia, was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not immediately known if he was the lone occupant inside his car.
Alcohol and drugs were not considered contributing factors in the crash, according to officials.
Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to call the CHP’s Baldwin Park-area office at 626-517-8500.
