Los Angeles Archbishop José H. Gomez will honor mothers Sunday during two Mother’s Day Masses at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, where women attending the services will receive special blessings and carnations.

Gomez is scheduled to celebrate an English-language Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, followed by a Spanish-language Mass at 12:30 p.m. at the downtown cathedral, according to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The archdiocese said written prayer petitions will be blessed by Gomez and delivered to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City during the archbishop’s annual pilgrimage Mass on July 11.

Prayer intentions may be dropped off through June 21, at the cathedral’s Chapel of the Relic of the Tilma of St. Juan Diego and at the 11 Catholic cemeteries and mortuaries operated by the archdiocese, officials said.

Digital prayer petitions may also be submitted through the archdiocese website at lacatholics.org/pilgrimage.

The Mother’s Day Masses will be livestreamed on the cathedral’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/user/olacathedral.
