Echo Park’s iconic swan boats will soon be glowing in patriotic red, white and blue after operators announced Wednesday that a new programmable LED lighting system will debut for nighttime rides on the lake.
The upgraded lighting system will launch Friday, when the illuminated boats begin nightly displays celebrating America’s 250th anniversary through Labor Day, according to Wheel Fun Rentals, which operates the swan boat concession at the lake.
The programmable LED system replaces the previous lighting with brighter, more energy-efficient technology, company officials said.
“We’re incredibly excited about this enhancement to our iconic Swan Boat Night Rides,” Wheel Fun Rentals Director of Operations Mike Ullerick said in a statement. “The new programmable LED lighting gives us endless opportunities to create memorable experiences for our guests while celebrating holidays, community events, and the unique spirit of Echo Park.”
Following the patriotic display, the boats will feature themed displays recognizing seasonal holidays, cultural celebrations and community events throughout the year, officials said.
The swan boats are open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Labor Day. Reservations are required at wheelfunrentals.com/book-echo.
