Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s praise for Justin Bieber’s surprise performance at MacArthur Park was drawing attention Wednesday after he described the concert as evidence of progress in efforts to reclaim the park from drug dealers.
Video on social media showed Bieber performing an impromptu set Tuesday at the Westlake-area park, drawing a crowd as he sang several songs.
In a post on X Tuesday night, Hochman described the performance as “a testament to the progress we are achieving to take back the park from drug dealers and enliven it for families.”
The district attorney also suggested the Canadian pop star could return for a future community event, writing that Bieber is “definitely on the invite list for next year’s Labor Day weekend picnic!”
Hochman shared a news report about the performance, which said Bieber sang an assortment of songs.
The appearance took place on a grassy area near Sixth Street, where Bieber and several musicians set up and began performing. Social media footage showed a crowd gathering around the performers.
Media reports said Bieber appeared to perform several songs, including his 2025 hit “Yukon.”
MacArthur Park has been the focus of law enforcement operations targeting drug sales and narcotics use. In June, Los Angeles police and federal agents conducted an operation at the park as part of efforts to address drug activity in the area.
Bieber, who performed “Yukon” at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, also headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.
