A trash can fire sparked by burning embers damaged part of a board-and-care facility Friday.
The fire was discovered in a large trash can just after 3 p.m. outside the home in the 2800 block of East Dutch Avenue, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said.
The blaze started after a chimney serviceman discarded hot embers in a trash can, according to business owner Daniel Rescia. Two staff members worked to extinguish the fire when it was discovered.
By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze was almost extinguished, Dunn said. Three of the five people residing in the home were there at the time, Dunn said. A neighbor helped get the seniors out of the home, he said.
The fire caused damage to the exterior of the garage, roof and eaves as well as part of a neighboring home, said Rescia. A damage estimate was pending.
