A 32-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting his sister’s boyfriend in Santa Ana last week has been returned to Orange County from Mexico and is being held without bail, authorities said Monday.

Prosecutors were preparing to file a murder charge against Adan Leon, 32, who was arrested in Mexico following a traffic stop. Because he is a U.S. citizen, he was shipped right back to Orange County to face charges of gunning down 39-year-old Paul Guzman, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Guzman was shot about 2:40 p.m. last Wednesday in the 1100 block of West Chestnut Avenue and died about an hour later at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

The two had been arguing about a “family dispute” before Guzman was shot multiple times in the upper body, Bertagna said. Officers found the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting near the crime scene, he said.
