Two people, one of them a California Highway Patrol officer, were hospitalized after an officer-involved collision in Irvine early Thursday.

The CHP patrol vehicle was responding with lights and siren to a report of a traffic crash on the nearby San Diego (405) Freeway when it hit another vehicle at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Jeffrey Road about 12:50 a.m., CHP Sergeant David Morenberg told a videographer at the scene.

One of two officers in the patrol vehicle was hospitalized, Morenberg said. The officer’s injury was not life-threatening, the CHP reported.

The driver of the second vehicle, a red Camaro, was hospitalized with moderate injuries, the videographer said.
