Officials have released the identity of a 22-year-old man struck and killed as he stood near his disabled vehicle on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Lake Forest resident Juan Cuevas-Camano, according to the coroner’s office.

The crash occurred in the freeway’s southbound lanes near North Grand Avenue at 2:40 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol online incident log.

Cuevas-Camano, who was involved in an earlier minor crash, stood near his 1997 Honda Accord — without any headlights or emergency lights activated — in the No. 1 lane of the freeway when he was struck by a 2002 Toyota RAV4 going 65 mph, according to a CHP dispatcher.

Cuevas-Camano was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota, a 59-year-old woman who was the lone occupant in her vehicle, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. She was not arrested or cited, according to the CHP.
