Ryan Thomas See of La Palma was arrested following a Chase bank robbery in the 13400 block of Telegraph Road, according to Whittier police and the FBI.
Police said he passed a teller a demand note that indicated he had a bomb that he would detonate if police were alerted.
The teller handed over nearly $6,000 and See fled on foot, police said.
“Moments later a Whittier police officer saw the suspect getting into a vehicle, which had been parked in front of a vacant residence not far from the bank,” according to police. “A high risk stop was initiated and the suspect was taken into custody.”
Investigators believe See is the Windy City Bandit, so called because he wore a cap with a Chicago Bears logo on it.
The previous robberies were also at Chase banks, one in Anaheim on Oct. 5 and one in Orange on Tuesday, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. The latest incident that resulted in the suspect’s capture was Thursday afternoon.
Whittier police patrol Santa Fe Springs.
